It’s with a high sense of humility and a great honour that I stand here today to welcome everyone to the launching ceremony of ADAZE RELIEF ASSOCIATION, TORONTO and fund raising initiative to financially support the educational pursuits of less privileged youth in our homestate, Eda state, Nigeria.
Tonight is not a speech making event, so I will try to make this quick. Before anything else, let us thank the Almighty God for allowing us to gather here this evening to do what is best for humanity. With great gratitude, I acknowledge your presence. Thank YOU for taking the time out of your busy schedule to be with us this evening.
To our chairman, chair-lady, chief launcher, launchers and the honourable guests here to give us great support, I wish you the most exciting time tonight.
We are gathered here today due to the collective efforts of the executive team and members of ADAZE. The countless hours, resources and ideas you have all employed to bring this organisation and fundraiser into existence, are nothing short of remarkable. Words are not enough for me to express my true gratitude to you all.
This club is one of the more notable clubs here in Toronto and thanks to God, ADAZE has the honour of co-hosting the Edo National Association Worldwide convention (ENAW) in the year 2018 right here in Toronto! This is something we are all very excited to be a part of as the convention will bring hundreds of Eda people from all across North America to our city in a celebration of community, culture, and identity.
As we come together today to celebrate the launching of this organization, we must remember that we are also here to fundraise. We fundraise in order to impact lives in a positive manner, and to fulfill our legacy of courage, vision and hope for our comm unities here and abroad in Edo State, Nigeria.
Most of our sister clubs here in Toronto have done several admirable projects back home. Projects ranging from building classrooms, to donating medical supplies and so on. However, ADAZE has deemed it necessary to pick a project that will gradually leave a positive impact on every aspect of our people’s needs. That project is the gift of education!
We are all privileged to be here tonight, in a country that offers us the right to learn and allows for endless opportunities. Yet, back home in Nigeria, many of our youth are not offered the same chances. So many brilliant children do not have the means to explore and showcase their brilliancy as they cannot afford to continue education post secondary school.
Unfortunately, there is nothing in place like OSAP to enable the less privileged pay for their classes, books and accommodation. This was the reason we decided to pick up this high tasked project. With the ADAZE association sponsoring these under—privileged youth, we are confident that many students will be able to complete their education, enter the workforce and become contributing members of Eda State. I invite each and every one of you to help us in this great project.
Lastly, since I assumed the leadership of ADAZE, from my first tenure to present, I have remained very focused and determined to see that the yearnings and aspirations of members are met. I am guided by our need to not only start a project, but to complete it successfully. This is only the beginning of ADAZE, and I am excited to see where we go and the positive impacts we will create in the future.
Once again, [say you are indeed welcome, thanks and God bless.
OBA GHA TO OKPERE, ISE! UP ADAZE, ONE LOVE!
